When an older man marries a younger woman, especially in the world of celebrities, no one bats an eyelash.  It’s a dynamic that outdates Hollywood itself.  Indeed, at one point it was even customary in some societies, long ago, when men were valued for the wisdom and status associated with age, while women were coveted for their beauty and youth.  The reverse, however – an older women eloping with a younger man – is more rare, so its occurrence is generally met with greater uproar.

Such was the case in the 2000s, when middle-aged actress Demi Moore started dating That 70s Show star Ashton Kutcher – who is 15 years her junior.  Such a pairing seemed absurd: a few years older, and she could be his mother!  Besides, what would this elegant, sexy star of Ghost and Indecent Proposal want with the prankster behind MTV’s Punk’d, beyond, well, his youth and beauty?

And yet, against all odds, they tied the knot in 2005 and have been happily married ever since.  Clearly, there’s more to their relationship than meets the eye.  It’s simple: it’s in the signs.

Ashton was born at the tail-end of the year of the Earth Horse, while Demi was born under the Water Tiger.  Like the two lovers, those signs may seem quite opposite, but in fact, they complement each other well.  As a Tiger, Demi desires a lover, not a father figure, so Ashton’s boyishness could actually be a positive trait.  But once again, appearances can be deceiving, and the element of Earth suggests a maturity that Ashton’s playful demeanor belies.

In any case, both Tigers and Horses are known for their independence and restlessness, which may frustrate the gentler, clingier Sheep, but allows people like Kutcher and Moore to understand each other in a unique way.  Perhaps it’s high time we stopped assuming their marriage is a new spin on an old tale, considering instead that it could be something timeless: true love!
