The Dog is a fighter for justice, and Water is auspicious for communications in Chinese astrology. It was thus most appropriate for former, world chess champion Garry Kasparov to take to the streets Saturday, a Water Dog day to protest against President Putin and for more freedom in Russia.

Then again it may not have been such a good idea.

Unfortunately for Kasparov, his Chinese astrology month sign is Fire Dragon. In Chinese Water combined with Fire equals disaster, and Dog is the enemy of the Dragon. It is no surprise then that Garry ended the day in jail and is to be there for five days.

Would it, then, have been better for him to consult the Chinese almanac prior to taking that risk? From a practical standpoint it is probably not wise to take the time to evaluate every action. On the other hand there are factors which suggest it would be worth it.

These include matters of great importance, high risk endeavors, and behavior which is out of the norm for a person's sign.

In Kasparov's case, the first and third, and perhaps the second, were in play. Political opposition is risky business in today's Russia. As for Kasparov, his primary (year) sign is Rabbit. The Rabbit is typically a peacemaker, not someone who would be leading or even participating in a public protest. He tempted fate and suffered the consequences.

Then again, is that bad? Sometimes you can do a lot for your cause by being a martyr. He did flash the V for victory sign on the way to jail.

Finally, it is interesting the day of his release from jail is a Rabbit day, Rabbit being his year sign in Chinese astrology. It is a day of conciliation and peace, a perfect day to release a prisoner.
