Purple Star Luck Report for

This report is based on the time tested methodology of Chinese, Purple Star Astrology
(Zi Wei Dou Shu). Its beginnings go back to the Tang Dynasty, about 1400 years ago.
Our oldest written records are about a 1,000 years old (Sung Dynasty). The style
we use today was developed and popularized about 500 years ago (Ming Dynasty). Before
then only the emperor and his highest officials had the privilege of receiving this
precious gift.
That’s why some of the stars take the names of positions at court, such as Left
and Right Assistant. Actually these are two of the 29 to over 100 stars used in
the various styles of Purple Star Astrology. But in every one, the Purple Star is
the one to which all the others relate as it represents the Emperor.
Of course. The original, Purple Star readings were for him. But through the centuries
they have become accessible to more and more people. And now you have yours!
Your report is based on the location of the Purple Star at your year, month, day,
and time of birth. That in turn locates 36 other stars (Appendix 1) which appear
on your chart. There may, however, be more than 37 stars on it. This is due to borrowing,
which is a technique of using the stars from an opposite Palace when one is empty.
Your Purple Star chart is a square with 12 blocks lining the inside of the perimeter.
They’re called Palaces and, like the 12 houses of Western Astrology, represent important
aspects of your life. They are: Ming (Overall Fate), Siblings, Marriage, Children,
Wealth, Health, Travel, Associates , Career, Property, Happiness, and Parents. You’ll
find details of each in the third part of this report.
Each Palace reveals what kind of Luck (Yun – the specific, Chinese Astrology word
for Luck) you will have in a decade as well as specific years of your life. For
example, the Wealth Palace might represent the decade, 10-19 years of age, as well
as the individual years, 4, 16, 28, 40, 52, 64, 76, 88, 100 and 112. By the way,
even though all those years appear in one Palace, their Luck (Yun) will not be the
same. This is because each year comes under the influence of the decade in which
it appears.
The term, Yun, by the way, is loosely translated as Luck in English but means more
than that in Chinese. It’s a philosophical term. Unlike the Western view of Luck
as random, the Chinese look at Yun being cyclical and predictable. You have more
or less of it at various times during your life. And, Astrologers can find out when
by looking at your Purple Star chart. So Yun then has more to do with known times
than sudden or unexpected ones.
Also, think of the Western idea of making Luck. For the Chinese it’s a matter of
making the most of Yun. A day or year might be lucky for you, but that doesn’t mean
you only need to receive it to get its benefits. Chinese definitions of Yun involve
action. You have to act to receive your good Luck. Even when sudden good fortune
comes your way, you still have to go out and build on it, or… easy come easy go!
Anyway, Yun is determined by the stars in the 12 Palaces. Each represents a ten-year
period in your life as well as individual years. Your chart shows one year in each
Palace, but it actually contains one in every 12 years of your life. You may, for
example, see age 2 in your Health Palace. Its Yun would also apply to ages, 14,
26, 38, etc. Their Luck, however, will not be the same, as each year is affected
by the Yun of its decade.
In the end it’s all about stars. Each star's impact on a Palace's Luck depends on
a number of things, the most important being whether or not it’s lucky in that Palace.
Another is the strength and quality of the star's influence. Is it shining brightly
on your Luck or casting a dim shadow? Stars are also major or minor, the latter
having a lesser effect. Finally, those in other Palaces also affect overall favorability.
One final but very important thing to know. NOTE : In China, at birth you are one
(1) year old. For the purpose of this reading, if you are from the West, your age
will be one(1) year older. For example, I was born in 1947. At the time I created
this report, I am 64 years old by American standards. For the purpose of the report,
I would be 65 years old.

Organization
This report consists of three parts. The first two detail how Yun fluctuates among
the decades and years of your life. The third describes 12 aspects of your environment
and the degree of Luck you can expect in each of them.
Part 1. This section begins with highlighting your most and least lucky decades.
All are then presented in chronological order.
Part 2. Here you will find your 10 most and least lucky years as well as
your Yun for the next 12 months. Appendix 4 contains a rank ordered list of them
all.
Part 3. The report concludes by noting the amount of Luck you can expect
to have when it comes to your Fate, Siblings, Marriage, Children, Wealth, Health,
Travel, Associates, Career, Property, Happiness, and Parents and what that could
mean for your life.
Unlucky Stars
Last but not least. Don’t get down when you come across a comment saying your life
at that point is ruled by one or two, very unlucky stars. The fact is everyone has
the same number of unlucky stars. No one escapes bad Luck! Some people, however,
are luckier than others. This depends on several factors, the most impor tant being
which stars are grouped together and in what Palaces the stars are located. What
is important is not how you compare to others, but how you can make the most out
of your life by understanding when and where you’re likely to find your best opportunities
to have the life you want for yourself. And, of course, you want to know when and
where you could encounter difficulties so you can prepare yourself to effectively
deal with them.
10-Year Cycles
Purple Star astrology is based on the assumption that Yun fluctuates according to
a ten year cycle. It’s thus traditional to break down a person’s life into ten year
periods.
Your chart shows 12 decades, one for each Palace. Don’t take this as a comment on
your lifespan; it’s just an organizational device. You may, however, get an idea
as to how long you’ll live based on Luck in the later decades, especially your Luck
for the Health and Ming Palaces.
The location of your first ten year cycle is your Ming Palace at
Ram. It runs from age
2 to 11. The following decades
are shown in adjacent Palaces running clockwise around the chart. You’ll also see
stars in each Palace.
These stars set the tone for the entire decade. But within it, Yun (Luck) fluctuates
greatly depending on the stars in each of their year Palaces. At most, only one
Year will fall in the decade palace. And, even in inauspicious decades there are
lucky years. In fact the number of lucky years is not the only factor in determining
whether a decade as a whole is lucky.
So each decade’s Luck is that of the Palace in which it falls on your chart. The
decade’s Yun will depend on the ratio of lucky to unlucky stars as well as the degree
of Luck and influence of each star. Your most favorable Palace will have only or
mostly, very lucky stars while the least favorable only or mostly, very unlucky
ones. These two decades are likely to be among the most important of your life,
so let’s look at them first.

The Decades
Here are the 12, possible decades of your life in chronological order. Each includes
its inclusive ages, overall Yun or Luck, its Palace, the number of lucky and stars
in it, and the Palace of the year in which the decade begins. Appendix 2 lists the
12 decades in rank order according to the Luck of each. You can thus see at a glance
how Yun varies throughout your life.
It also changes throughout each decade. Let’s say, for example, the decade being
considered runs from age 22 to 31 and is located in the Happiness Palace. Age 22,
however, might reside in the Siblings Palace. The overall Yun of the decade is that
of the former Palace while that of its first year, Age 22, is determined by the
stars in the latter.
To see how Yun varies from year to year, find the Palace of the first age of a decade
on your chart. Look at the number and quality of the stars in this and subsequent
Palaces as you move around the chart (counterclockwise for a woman and clockwise
for a man).
If a decade’s Yun is auspicious, it will enhance favorable years and minimize the
negative Luck of inauspicious ones. The reverse is true of an unlucky decade.
Each decade has five narratives. The first two describe the impact of the major
and minor stars respectively. The third relates the decade’s Yun to typical events
for that stage of your life. The fourth connects the fate of the decade Palace with
its Yun. And, the last provides a look at how the decade is likely to begin.
