George Steinbrenner is an American billionaire businessman, and owner and
the former principal executive of Major League Baseball's New York Yankees. His
outspokenness and role in driving up player salaries have made him one of the
sport's most controversial figures. His willingness to freely spend money in an
effort to buy championships has allowed for the Yankees' erratic post-season
success since 1976, yet has earned him begrudging respect from some baseball
executives, while at the same time earning him contempt from some fans.
Steinbrenner is known as a hands-on executive, earning the nickname
"The Boss". His tendency to meddle in daily on-field decisions, and
to hire and fire (and occasionally re-hire) managers led then-Yankees skipper
Dallas Green to give him the derisive nickname "Manager George".
During Steinbrenner's ownership, from 1973–2008, the longest in club
history, the Yankees have earned 10 pennants and six World Series titles.
Born July 4, 1930, his primary personality traits are represented by the
Chinese Zodiac elemental animal sign, the Metal Horse. The Metal Horse doesn't
make the best camping buddy. He is relatively cold, self reliant nature,
coupled with the Horse's love of freedom, make him a difficult Horse to get
close to. He has strong determination and will go far as long as he can
maintain focus. As human nature attracts us to that which we cannot have, it is
not unlikely for him to be an object of his desire. He can be a dashing figure
indeed.
